In the dark world of Panem, Katniss finds herself oscillating between her desire to defeat the tyrants who oppress her people, or give up and save the ones she loves--in particular Peeta--from more pain and suffering. She is haunted by the song her father used to sing when she was a child, and only now does she understand the true meaning of it. Fortunately, her bravery wins in the end and she is able to create a brighter future for the coming generations.
I tried to capture the essence of the book's characters with this necklace. Katniss and Peeta, the boy and girl on fire, are represented with a sparkling Swarovski crystal heart, dark red to represent blood, fire and love. On either side of the crystal heart hangs a bird charm--symbol of the mockingjay--and a white pearl, like the pearl Peeta gave to Katniss in Catching Fire during the Quarter Quell.
The tree pendant measures approximately 1.5" (4 cm) in diameter. It is made of rhodium-plated metal and is nickel and lead free. I love how detailed it is. The pearl is a flawless white Swarovski pearl and the Swarovski crystal heart is encased in a rhodium frame. Rhodium is a high-quality metal that contains no lead or nickel and is hypoallergenic. It is also tarnish resistant.
